Architecture Overview

The CA eHealth suite of products provides integrated and automated performance management of business-critical IT services and applications as well as the system and network infrastructure. eHealth enables the user to generate customised reports on short-, mid- and long-term performance trends and to monitor critical services and components in real-time. Fully automated analysis methods will integrate the comprehensive data distributed in your IT environment into meaningful information that will provide the foundation for well informed, efficient, proactive decisions and the reporting of your quality of service for internal and external customers. Thus, eHealth perfectly complements CA's SPECTRUM fault management solution.
With its modular architecture the system perfectly meets the requirements of both enterprise networks and service providers. eHealth has been designed for heterogeneous environments supporting numerous management standards. By strategic alliances with all major vendors the support for a wide variety of components is guaranteed. Worldwide, many Fortune 500 companies rely on this leading IT performance management solution.
The eHealth suite includes the eHealth E2E Console as central monitoring platform as well as Network Health, System Health and Application Health as monitoring components.
The eHealth E2E Console provides the following components:
eHealth collects the data via SNMP polling of the network elements using a powerful poller. The intelligent selection of key parameters and efficient polling methods guarantee that the network operation will not be affected.
The polling data will be normalised to enable the data comparison between different vendors and technologies. Then they will be stored in a relational database system that comes preconfigured with eHealth with no additional administration efforts necessary.
- Analysis- and Reporting Engine
The collected data automatically will be analysed and aggregated based on your requirements (thresholds, baseline, etc.) eHealth will then generate reports for different target groups.
The eHealth WebConsole is the reporting portal for all eHealth users. eHealth enables the administrator to assign different rights to define which user will have access to corresponding reports and components. The portal design may be customised to your corporate identity requirements.
Application Health
eHealth Application Health enables you to continuously monitor the performance of your business-critical applications from various perspectives.

Application Health supports both active performance testing and passive monitoring of user transactions for tracking performance data. This enables you to proactively identify application outages but also performance degradations. All eHealth analysis techniques such as trend analysis, threshold analysis as well as service level reporting are supported. Application Health provides a precise reporting on the availability of critical applications and services (e.g. email). The integration into backend system management solutions, especially for database servers (link zu DB Insight) is complementing the E2E view.
System Health
System Health provides proactive capacity and performance management for your business-critical server systems. Overview and detailed reports provide instant information on the servers' status enabling efficient management of a large number of servers at minimum efforts. System Health requires a standard-compatible (Host resources MIB) SNMP agent at the server systems. Often the appropriate agents are already available, e.g. HP servers with Insight Manager agents. In other cases, amasol recommends using CA SystemEDGE agents (see below) that will provide the data for System Health but also allow proactive and automated system management.
SystemEDGE Agents
SystemEDGE SNMP agents are available for all major UNIX and Windows platforms providing comprehensive and widely automated monitoring of server systems. Supporting the standard MIB-II and Host resources, MIB SystemEDGE agents not only can be used with CA products but also be integrated into all SNMP-based management platforms.
The major benefits of the SystemEDGE agents are:
- Automated Management
- Process and NT Service Monitoring
- Log File Monitoring
- Asset/Inventory Management
- Open, scalable architecture
Network Health
Network Health provides capacity planning and proactive performance, error and service level management for network infrastructure components. Specific modules provide reporting features for Frame Relay, LAN/WAN, router/switch, ATM and remote access technologies. For all technologies reasonable monitoring thresholds are preset providing instant value to the user. At the moment more than 450 network components from more than 70 vendors are supported.
Traffic Accountant
Traffic Accountant monitors traffic from RMON2 probes and Cisco Netflow collectors and reports historical traffic data and traffic profiles by device, department or business units and applications. Based on these reports you can professionally plan, expand or regroup your network resources. In addition Traffic Accountant enables you to monitor consumption and security policies.
Traffic Accountant will provide you with the following information:
• Consumption of network resources by users, business units, regions or applications
• Unauthorised access to network resources
• Consumption trends.
eHealth Reporting
eHealth will be delivered with the following standard reports:
• Health Reports: high-quality reports using historical data to analyse trends and proactively identify potential problems.
• Service Level Reports: reports for monitoring and documenting service level agreements e.g. for senior executives, business managers or external service customers.
• At-a-glance reports: Overview on all key parameters of a corresponding network component (router, server, switch).
• Top-N Reports: Tabular report based on filters (e.g. list of routers with the highest CPU or storage utilisation).
• MyHealth Reports: Access to the eHealth WebConsole for authorised users to generate their personal reports, which may be updated daily, with an easy-to-use web-based editor.
The eHealth Report Center provides the opportunity to define specific reports in addition to the predefined reports.
The end-user may select among two Report Center options:
• Report Center Query Studio: Provides comprehensive features to design reports, especially for ad-hoc analysis by experienced users.
• Report Center Report Studio: Provides maximum report design features to experienced users.
eHealth LiveHealth
LiveHealth is a special highlight of the eHealth suite allowing real-time monitoring of the eHealth data. Current data will be compared to fix or dynamic thresholds generated from historical data. Thus, even complex service level agreements can be monitored in real-time.

Specific errors, e.g. an unusual utilisation of a component or service at a specific day time will be identified with the LiveHealth baseline analysis. Dynamic, baseline-based thresholds will help to efficiently avoid needless alerts.

Live Health Analysis by baseline comparison
With a large number of preconfigured policies for various technologies and applications LiveHealth provides an instant value without time consuming implementation. Needless to say, you can customise all parameters for your own requirements.
Integration Database Management with DB Insight
By integrating eHealth into the CA Insight for Distributed Databases management solution the major performance parameters of the backend systems can be included to the eHealth system to use them for an integrated analysis with eHealth Reports and LiveHealth.

Integration of VoIP Environments
Using the Converged Network Data Collector (CNDC), performance data of the VoIP infrastructure can be integrated in eHealth.

Thus the analysis, reporting and alarming functions of eHealth are also available for these components.
Fault Management Integration with SPECTRUM

For integraed fault and performance management eHealth can be tightly integrated into the CA SPECTRUM fault management solution enabling central configuration and an integrated workflow when working with both systems.
