CA SPECTRUM

SPECTRUM Components

Automated Root Cause Analysis

One of CA SPECTRUM's key features is the automatic fault isolation by alarm and event correlation. This feature runs on the object-oriented network model in SPECTRUM and CA's patented inductive modelling technology widely without extensively manageable policies. Thus, alerts are only generated by objects that really went down.

 


The problem's root causes are clearly displayed and can be solved quickly. The impacts on the network, services and customers are directly displayed as well.
Modern auto-discovery technologies automate most of the network model maintenance – but the administrator still will keep full control on the configuration.
On the network management layer SPECTRUM adds more and more logic information to its physical information, which is especially important in ATM ELAN and VLAN environments. With its multi-vendor support and by integrating element managers of various hardware vendors SPECTRUM provides a comprehensive management system. In addition to LAN management WLAN management as well as the management of virtual networks gains more and more importance. For these scenarios SPECTRUM VPN Manager, QoS Manager and Multicast Manager will provide detailed management information.


Integrated Configuration Management

The CA SPECTRUM Network Configuration Manager enables you to integrate fault and configuration management – an important step as changes are a frequent cause for failures. The quick assignment to changes lets you quickly detect and solve the problem.

Integrated Service Level Management

The Service Manager complements the suite of products with a service and business process management solution. All resources managed by SPECTRUM can be grouped as services and business processes. The SLA/BPM tool enables you to define business processes (e.g. e-commerce), assign the involved objects (network, system, application), monitor them based on predefined policies, analyse flaws and assign costs.


 
The efforts necessary to create the previous chart highly depend on the technological structure of the management platform; this is where the object-oriented approach of CA SPECTRUM shows its strength. Because CA SPECTRUM includes objects (e.g. a UNIX system) as well as the correlation between single objects (e.g. SAP R3 client connected to Switch A/PortB) the task of defining a SLA/BP simply is to add new correlations to the corresponding objects (e.g. SAP R3 client belongs to BP SAP R3). The rest of the work is done by CA SPECTRUM's correlation engine. The whole process of BP definition is done via drag and drop (no long winded coding of policies) supported by templates. Therefore, the definition as well as further adjustments can be done with little manpower and expenditure of time.

Integration

By completely integrating CA SPECTRUM into CA eHealth you will profit from a complete fault and performance management workflow. The monitored components will be synchronised automatically between CA SPECTRUM and CA eHealth. 


 

The performance alerts known from CA eHealth will be integrated into the CA SPECTRUM root cause analysis and business service views. For analysing eHealth reports can by directly loaded from the SPECTRUM web GUI.
Optional integration features guarantee a seamless integration into help desk systems such as Remedy/BMC ARS or other OSS systems.
